How well are our beliefs supported by direct Scriptural evidence?

A couple of experiences during 2024 caused one of our members to reflect deeply on our approach to the Bible, how we form our beliefs, the concept of levels of evidence, and the implications for the unity of believers. The paper here, which describes their journey, formed the basis of a workshop presented at the 2026 Australian Unitarian Christian Alliance conference.

How important is that doctrine?

This was the topic in July 2026 for one of the weekly podcasts on the Restitutio youtube channel. After reading his paper, Host Sean Finnegan interviewed Michael Hughes from Living Hope Christian Church in Cambridge NZ, to hear more about his approach to answering this question. Together they go through the nine levels of evidence giving examples and discussing the implications.
